Food Rules Day 16 Protein The Brick and Mortar

Protein — The Brick and Mortar

The Lesson:  The Building Blocks of Recovery

Protein isn't just for bodybuilders; it is the fundamental structural component of your entire body, from your muscle tissue to your immune cells and neurotransmitters.

The Science: When you consume protein, your body breaks it down into amino acids. These are sent through the bloodstream to repair damaged muscle fibers through a process called Muscle Protein Synthesis (MPS). If you under-eat protein, your body still needs those amino acids for vital organ function, so it will literally cannibalize your own muscle tissue to get them.

The Analogy: Imagine your body is a brick house, and daily life—stress, workouts, aging—is a storm that knocks a few bricks loose every day. Protein is the truck delivering new bricks and fresh mortar. If the delivery truck doesn't show up, the house slowly falls apart.
