Food Rules Day 14 Starch Free Sunday

Starch Free Sunday & The Maintenance Blueprint

Today's Rule: No starches all day.

Your Action Plan:

  • Focus On: High-quality proteins, healthy fats, and non-starchy green vegetables (broccoli, asparagus, spinach).
  • Avoid: Potatoes, rice, oats, heavy root vegetables, and all grains.

The Lesson:  Most diets are just a short-term blueprint without a post-diet maintenance plan. It is like building a house but not knowing how to maintain it when a pipe breaks. Food Rules is about setting rules that eventually turn into habits that are no-brainers, just like brushing your teeth.

Mindful Habit Challenge:  Reflect on the past 14 days. Identify the one Food Rule that has most effortlessly become a habit for you.

The Science: When you consume starches (complex carbohydrates), your body stores them in your liver and muscles as glycogen. Here is the biochemical reality: for every 1 gram of glycogen stored, your body holds onto approximately 3 grams of water.

Carbo-Hydrate

Carb = Carbon

Hydrate = Water

Think of starches like a kitchen sponge. Every time you eat them, your body absorbs and holds onto heavy water. By eliminating starches for a single day, you wring out the sponge. You are actively flushing out unnecessary, retained fluid from the weekend. That is exactly why you wake up on Monday morning feeling instantly lighter, tighter, and less inflamed.

Coach Ryan's Note

Glycogen Depletion We drop starches today not because carbs are inherently evil, but to manipulate glycogen stores and shed retained fluid before the new week begins.
