Today's Rule: Have 2 big bowls of salad, and no starches all day.
Your Action Plan:
The Lesson: It's easier to get enough protein when you think ahead. Save time and money by bulk purchasing chicken breasts, extra-lean hamburgers, or bags of shrimp. You can also boil a dozen eggs for grab 'n' go snacks, or use a Crock Pot for cheaper cuts of meat. If you grill, fill all the space with protein choices and freeze the leftovers.
Mindful Habit Challenge: Bulk-prep a lean protein today (like grilling extra chicken or boiling eggs) so you have it ready for the next few days.
The Science: Dr. Bruce Ames, a renowned biochemist, developed the "Triage Theory." He found that when the body is short on micronutrients (vitamins, minerals, antioxidants), it rations them for short-term survival functions (like keeping your heart beating) at the expense of long-term health functions (like DNA repair and preventing aging).
If you start running out of money, you pay your mortgage before you put money into your retirement account. Your body does the exact same thing with nutrients. If you are deficient, it abandons "retirement" (anti-aging, tissue repair, vibrant energy) just to keep you surviving.
